We live in a world filled with sorrow and seem to be surrounded by fear. There are threats by a lot of the worlds leaders of war. We live in a world where the threat of, and use of, chemical weapons, nuclear weapons etc. has reached us as a real threat. ‘This means war’ has taken on a whole new meaning – chemical war, nuclear war, cyber war, etc. There’s a lot we want protection from, isn’t there?
But it’s not only wars we desire protection from. Protection from illness, protection from bullies, protection in the home against domestic violence, financial protection, etc.
We often try to find ways to protect ourselves, either collectively or individually, don’t we? But what would it look like if we fully trusted that, in whatever circumstances we find ourselves in, the LORD would be our protection? What if we could always remember that the LORD’s love enfolds us completely and eternally?
If I could be anyone in the Bible I would choose David. Despite the fact that he had a really difficult life and made some horrific choices, I admire his perseverance, his heart for the LORD, and his style of worship.
So, it shouldn’t come as any surprise that I find myself, once again, using his words for the basis of my blog.
David writes, ‘But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.’ (Psalm 5:11 NIV)
