Day 7: The Third Option

20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel (which means “God with us”). (Matthew 1:20-23)

Having been faced with a seemingly impossible choice, and choosing what seemed best, something remarkable happened. The angel presented Joseph with an unexpected third option. As it turns out this was not only best for him, but also for Mary, her unborn child, and all of us! What a blessing!

Have you ever been blessed in the discovery of an unexpected third option?

It seems to me that some of our biggest blessings happen through pain, struggle, or from making difficult decisions. That can be quite tough to accept, can’t it?

The other thing that I picked up on is that the angel visited Joseph in a dream. The angel didn’t visit him in person, like with Mary. I would imagine that the reason for this is that God knows how best to show Himself to each of us, whether in dreams, through other people, in books, etc. That’s certainly been true in my experience.
