13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.”(Luke 2:13-14)
There is too much in these two verses to write about in one post, so I will carry on with it tomorrow.
Today’s theme is ‘awe’. It seems to me that it would have been awesome to see so many angels. I can’t quite imagine what it would have been like to witness one angel appearing, let alone a whole host of angels appearing!
In my mind, I imagine that it would have been very bright and loud! We seem to associate heaven, angels and Jesus with a brightness that is often difficult to describe with our vocabulary. This brightness is also often depicted in artwork portraying Jesus as a baby, and angels, for example.
Also, there is ‘awe’ to be found in verse 14 too. I wonder whether anyone else has experienced such deep and wholehearted praise? From my perspective, that level of praise is awesome to witness and awesome to experience. I’ve recently discovered that praise does not rely on things going well. We can also praise in times of great pain and difficulty. It doesn’t come easily, but practicing it can be awesome. What does ‘awe’, ‘wonder’ or ‘praise’ feel like to you?
