Music And Art

I’m not musical, at all, but I listen to music most of the day – every day. I love all sorts of music. I have a tendency to listen to the same album or playlist over and over again.

I feel inspired to paint what I ‘see’ when I listen to music. When I saw Philippa Hanna perform at St. Peter’s church, Yateley, on Saturday, I felt a strong desire to paint while listening to her songs. I bought three of her CD’s and I intend to paint while listening to them.

I’ll post photos of these paintings, as I do them, on my Artist Facebook Page and Website.

My hope is that this will boost my low mood – listening to uplifting music while painting. Sounds like good therapy to me.

  1. The opposite happens for me sometimes. I look at a piece of artwork and imagine some music that might go with it. The first time I noticed this happen was whilst I was looking at a piece of technical/mathematical art at the Reina Sofia in Madrid. Predictably, perhaps for me only, the art inspired the sounds of detroit techno to play in my mind.
